Moonstream Roadmap Updates for January
Great Wyrm, new and improved NFT standards, a Hacktogether, and more..
Hello everyone! This is the January edition of the Moonstream newsletter. As per usual, here are our plans and updates from our roadmap.
Great Wyrm, a player-owned RPG
We continue working on Great Wyrm. The goal is to create a role-playing game with a board game kind of gameplay. Players can add to the game world, create their own characters, lore, art, and gameplay mechanics. Game Masters/community decide what sticks. No copyright rules or taxes from us.
At first, the game world is created by Moonstream.to and the game runs on the Garden of Forking Paths mechanic. We’re working with Constellation Labs, OP Games, and Game7 DAO to make the blockchain integration invisible to players. So no transactions through MetaMask, etc.
Some of the technology behind Great Wyrm:
Inventory contract
NFT Inventory is an open-source smart contract standard developed in partnership with Game7. It lets developers define item slots for an NFT. This allows players to “level up” and evolve NFTs as they upgrade it with soulbound NFT items.
Garden of Forking Paths
We’ve been developing the front-end for the Garden of Forking Paths gameplay. We plan to finalize it this month (February 2023)! Here is how it looks so far:
RPG character NFT standard
Great Wyrm characters are represented by tokens on an ERC721 smart contract. The key differences are:
Metadata can be changed only by the token owner, not the smart contract administrator
Attached NFT Inventory
Upgradability using the EIP-2535 Diamond standard
Eras and origins of the characters are represented on-chain, not just in token metadata
The standard is already deployed on Polygon Mumbai testnet. Read more about it in the design document on our GitHub.
Dropper
To other news..Dropper is a great alternative to traditional airdrops. Instead of sending items to each wallet individually, just create an interface (a website) and let people connect their wallet, see the items they got, and claim those items themselves.
We are working on perfecting this technology to be used in games and making it more accessible to people who are not familiar with blockchains. Track the progress on our GitHub here.
Conferences and Meetups
GAM3R Forum
Last year, Moonstream’s founder presented at the GAM3R Forum organized by Game7. We got a lot of positive feedback about the presentation.
The good news is that you can finally watch the recording of it here!
